Welcome to May: The Season Opens

May arrives in Virginia with a kind of electricity.

The fields turn emerald, horses bloom into their spring coats, trailers begin to roll in and out again, and the rhythm of the farm shifts from those tentative first outings of spring into the momentum of a full-fledged summer season. There is an energy to this month that always feels like possibility — and this year especially, May feels like the true start of summer in horse country.

It begins, of course, with the inaugural Beverly Spring Classic on May 23-24, a milestone moment for our program and an exciting launch to the season ahead. But what makes May so special is that it is also the gateway to everything that follows — the beginning of summer planning, summer goals, and all the experiences still to come.

From Beverly, the season stretches forward to the iconic rings of Upperville Colt & Horse Show and the tradition of Loudoun Benefit Horse Show, with so much opportunity in between. This is the time riders begin building their summer maps — deciding where they want to go, what they want to accomplish, and how they want to grow. We love helping riders do exactly that.

And while the show season takes shape, another beloved tradition returns: Sunday Polo.

Summer Sundays at Beverly have always been about more than sport. They are about atmosphere — afternoons on the deck, horses on the field, friends gathering, and Virginia at its most beautiful. This season, we are especially excited about what is taking shape, with returning leagues, exciting matchups, and a few new twists we cannot wait to share.

Expect a vibrant social scene around the field this summer, with winery collaborations, deck takeovers, and hospitality experiences designed to make Sundays feel like an event unto themselves. There will be beautiful things to watch, beautiful things to ride, and beautiful things simply to be part of.

And there may be a few surprises on the horizon.

A little more visual theater. A little more lifestyle. A few new partnerships and moments of interest — perhaps with some familiar luxury names making appearances around the grounds. Consider this a hint.

Whether your summer dreams involve the hunter ring, the jumper ring, the polo field, a new horse, weekends in Virginia horse country, or simply spending more time where horses and community meet, May is where it starts.

The farm is humming again. The season is opening.

And the best of summer is just ahead.

Welcome to May at Beverly — let’s make plans.
