August Proves the Work is Worth It

August is when summer’s hard work shows itself: the fields are full, the horses are fit, the evenings stretch just long enough to keep everyone at the rail a little past the last chukker, and every corner of Beverly is alive with activity. Whether you join us for polo, horse shows, lessons, or simply to spend an afternoon with family and friends, this is one of the best times of the year in horse country.

Sunday Social Polo

Sunday afternoons continue to define the season. Our Sunday Polo series has become a place where world-class sport meets the relaxed hospitality that makes fieldside feel like community.

August raises the level once again with the Fauquier Gold Cup 10-Goal, presented by The Baldwin Group, our third 10-goal tournament of the summer. It is followed by the USPA Eastern Challenge (12–16 Goal), bringing the highest-rated polo of the season to Beverly, while the Salamander High Goal Series continues throughout the month.

On the Road

August also marks the heart of the off-site show season.

Our riders, horses, and trainers continue their summer campaign at Lexington National, carrying Beverly proudly onto one of Virginia's premier stages before attention turns to the exciting lineup of local fall competitions—including our own Beverly Fall Classic, which brings the Virginia show season to its conclusion.

Summer Horse Shows

Our Summer Show Series continues to grow, and it has been rewarding to watch so many riders take advantage of a format designed with competitors in mind.

Each show makes full use of two exceptional competition venues—the Grand Prix Arena for jumpers and the Wofford Arena for hunters—allowing developing riders and experienced competitors alike to enjoy a professionally run day without sacrificing accessibility.

We remain committed to creating shows that are welcoming, efficient, and thoughtfully organized, where quality and access always comes before prestige.

Looking Ahead to September

While August is full, September promises even more.

The Plains Polo Cup returns to close the polo season, and this year it has been elevated to a full 10-goal tournament, representing the highest level of polo Beverly has ever hosted.

It is a fitting finale to an extraordinary summer.

Preparing for Fall

As schools reopen, we look forward to welcoming back our Wakefield Equestrian riders, along with students from throughout the region. (Thnnk you, Country Zest for the great article!)

Whether you're returning to competition, beginning your riding journey, or simply looking to spend more time in the saddle, Beverly offers opportunities for riders of every age and experience level. You don't have to be a junior rider—or even own a horse—to become part of our community.

Fall also marks the beginning of our lease season, with thoughtfully matched horses and flexible programs designed to help riders develop their skills before heading south for the winter.

Winter Is Closer Than It Looks

It may still feel like summer, but Wellington is already on the horizon. Each year we help horses and riders transition seamlessly to our Florida base, making the winter season as organized and stress-free as possible. From transportation and training to competition support, our goal is simple: allow you to focus on enjoying your horse while we handle the details. If you've been thinking about spending the winter in Wellington, now is the perfect time to begin planning.

But first, August. The last unhurried month before the next rush begins. In September, fall entries open, Wellington plans solidify, and the school horses come back into work. But for four more Sundays, the only thing that matters is the afternoon in front of you. Come spend it at Beverly.
