Lexington National: The Beverly Program Travels & Starts the Fall Season Right

A great show week begins long before a horse walks into the ring.

At Beverly, our program is built around a simple set of priorities: exceptional care of the horse, an experience designed around our clients, thoughtful amenities and support, and a standard of excellence that carries through everything we do. Lexington National gave us an opportunity to put all of those pieces on the road.

We opened our fall season with ten horses from Beverly and David Matisz’s program competing across the jumpers and equitation. It was a busy week, with horses showing from the .85m through the 1.35m and riders pursuing goals of their own.

But what matters most about an away show is that the fundamentals do not change.

Horse Care Comes First

Horses thrive on consistency. Their routines, feed, medications, turnout, preparation and recovery all matter—and they matter just as much away from home as they do in their own stalls.

The Beverly team that knows and cares for our horses every day traveled with them to Lexington. The same attention to detail that defines their care in Virginia followed them throughout the week.

That continuity is an important part of the Beverly showing experience. Our goal is not simply to get horses to the ring. It is to have them arrive there prepared to perform, support them throughout the competition, and bring them home healthy, sound and ready for the next step in their program.

A Week of Progress

The results were gratifying.

• Brooke Ballhaus won the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search and its qualifier and finished third of 36 in the VHSA Adult Flat Finals.

• Ballyfore Amuzed earned ribbons in the 1.20m jumpers.

• Fuego stepped up to the 1.30m/1.35m amateur jumpers and finished well in both.

• Balisto moved into the 1.20m and 1.25m amateur divisions, earning ribbons throughout.

• Little Gun 17 won a 1.10m class and earned ribbons in each of his classes in a competitive division.

• And Beverly’s Get Even—Steven around the barn—won the .85m classic, finished second in the other class he did, and earned Reserve Champion.

The ribbons are wonderful. Just as important were the horses moving confidently into new divisions, riders accomplishing individual goals, and the entire string returning home well.

That is our definition of a successful show.

A Client-First Showing Experience

Showing should be ambitious without becoming unnecessarily complicated.

Beverly is designed to give our clients the support of a full-service program: excellent home facilities, individualized training and horse care, professional show preparation, and the staffing and organization necessary to carry that experience with them when they travel.

Our amenities matter because they support the larger program. Our arenas, turnout, rehabilitation resources, horse-care facilities and comfortable spaces for clients all serve the same purpose: creating an environment in which horses and riders can do their best work.

When we travel, that philosophy travels with us.

We choose shows and schedules thoughtfully. We consider what each horse needs, where each rider is headed and when competition adds something meaningful to the program. Sometimes that means moving up. Sometimes it means consolidating confidence at the current level. And sometimes the best decision for a horse is not to show at all.

The calendar serves the horse and rider—not the other way around.

Two Horses Available

Lexington also gave two Beverly horses an opportunity to demonstrate exactly the kind of partners they can be. Ballyfore Amuzed and Beverly’s Get Even are available for sale or lease to the right situation. Both have now demonstrated their abilities away from home and in competitive company, while benefiting from the same care and preparation that supports every horse in the Beverly program.

For a rider or family considering the next step, we believe finding the right match matters more than simply making a transaction. We are happy to talk through either horse, the rider’s goals and whether the partnership makes sense.

Bringing It Home

Lexington was the beginning of our fall season, not the destination.

The horses returned home sound. Riders returned with successes to celebrate and useful work to build upon. And we returned to the exceptional facilities at Beverly with a clear sense of what comes next for each horse and rider.

That is the program we work to deliver every day: horse care first, clients at the center, exceptional facilities and support, and excellence in the details—at home and wherever the season takes us.
